Well folks it is that time of year. The cold weather is starting to taper off, the animals are coming out, and that first day of spring, wonderful March 21, is looming ever closer. While spring is such a wonderful time, it brings on some things that many of us—myself included—have tried to forget about. For example, school is going to end in a few months. Can you believe it? Soon groups of bored children will be roaming your neighborhood, looking for entertainment during the dog days of summer (assuming they aren’t already entertained by their Xbox/Game Cube/Wii/Game Boy). Also coming are Mother’s day, Father’s day, prom and graduation.
It is with this mention of transitions that I make my shameful plea. Recently I was told I will be salutatorian of my graduating class. While this is an honor, I am at a complete loss as to what to say. As tradition, I am supposed to address the past four years in high school. I have received advice from my instructors who all want something different, and my guidance counselor who tells me to stick with tradition. As many of you have graduated previously, I ask you, implore you, what would you have wanted to hear at graduation. Feel free to comment or drop me a line with your suggestions.
