Politics and Plagiarism

Posted in Opinion by Amanda Roberts on Mar 1, 2008

Wonderful readers, if you have been alive for the past four years, you have undoubtedly heard of this thing called the 2008 election. Well, I have attempted to stay as neutral as possible during this wonderful campaign season but now I feel it is time to show everyone that Republicans and Democrats are all part of the same team.

Well, at least they have similar practices. A couple weeks ago, there were whisperings about Barack Obama’s speech at a rally in Wisconsin. The speech is strikingly similar to Deval Patrick’s during his campaign for governor in 2006. Was it intentional plagiarism? Or was it just a case of a citation needed Wikipedia style?

Regardless, the fact remains that Mr. Obama should have mentioned Mr. Patrick somewhere in his speech, but he did not. This in turn led to the wonderful rumors about his political ethics. Now, I promised to show you that both of the major parties are similar, so Democrats relax as I now detail the GOP’s little slip.

This past Friday, Tim Goeglein—a senior aide to the president—admitted to plagiarism in an essay for an Indiana newspaper. While one should applaud him for coming clean, this was only done after his superiors were notified about the plagiarism. It has not yet been announced if Mr. Goeglein will be allowed to keep his job.

So there you have it, we are all the same in our sins. So Democrats and Republicans join hands and rejoice, we all really are the same.
