Wonderful technological advances will soon make it possible for advertisers to target you as you via your cell phone. There is also a possibility that your ads could be targeted to you by location, so you get local ads from local sellers. According to T-Mobil, approximately half of cell phone users from 16-36 wouldn’t mind receiving ads if it would pay off for them (i.e. free games or ring tones). While the technology is still being worked on, it is not hard to imagine those annoying internet pop-ups happening on your cell phone.
I’m all for cell phones (I couldn’t go through my day without one) and I’m all for ads (hence the occasional ads on my site) but I think if an ad pops up on my phone I will scream. Cell phones were made to talk to other people on. We do not need cameras, internet, GPS and whatever else they are putting in cell phones now a days. Please can we just use our phones for talking again? It seems to me like the next thing we will have are ads read into our cell phone conversations. The whole idea of having ads targeted and beamed to us reminds me a little too much of Feed. My only hope is when these horrible ads come out that there is some way to opt-out (like you can opt-out of the text message ads).
