The Environment and MySpace

The Good: During a normal hectic week I drink I drink anywhere from twenty-eight to forty-two bottles of liquid. These bottles are then recycled yes, but what about the hundreds of bottles that aren’t recycled? What about all the other things that could be recycled but arn’t? Well some companies are stepping up to make a change. Yahoo posted some eco-friendly lap top bags, and to see that article click here.

Anyway, since just restating what Yahoo said would be a waste of time, I am going to post some of my own “green” products that have the WordScrawl endorsement.

  • Weisenbach Vases: made from recycled glass are beautiful and eco friendly. Weisenbach makes a whole line of recycled products that range from glassware to paper products.
  • Green and More Lamps: Green and More is an extension of a Boston store that specializes in environmentally friendly products. Using reclaimed woods, found bits of metal, milk jugs and more this company makes just about everything you could want. My favorite product is their lamps which are unique and funky.
  • RecycleStore Everything: This is my last and favorite store and it is in the great eco-friendly state of California. This site is sponsored by the government of California and connects you will multiple manufacturers of recycled products. You search for an item, they find someone who can produce it for you. It’s a great place for anything you would like to be eco-friendly.

The Bad: The days of using a fake email address are over people. So many of us click agree when that “Agree to our Terms of Service” box pops up on our computer screens, and very few of us ever read it. The fact of the matter is many online services have rules against creating fake profiles on their sites. While we many think no one abides by them, federal officials are now cracking down on it.

The reason for the crack down is the suicide of a 13 year old who used MySpace. The girl chatted with a boy named Josh Evans on MySpace, not knowing that is was really a woman in her 40s. The girl hanged herself after receiving many cruel messages from “Josh”. The woman’s motives I will not get into, but she is being prosecuted for violating MySpace’s Terms of Service. The message here? Don’t make up fake names or torment little girls. Please dear readers, stay out of trouble and remember that agreeing to Terms of Service is binding like a contract, so read, read, and read again!

  1. Thanks, I’m honored to have the WordScrawl endorsement for our recycled products! And thanks for recycling all those one-time-use beverage containers so we can upcycle them into beautiful durable goods . . . I wish more folks wold get the idea that it makes no sense to bury our resources. My latest project making new product from recycled tire rubber.
    Cheers!
