The Good: The argument as to whether amputees should be able to compete in the Olympics with prosthetics has been hotly debated for years. Many liken prosthetics for runners to vision enhancements surgeries for a golfer to better see the green. One man, Oscar Pistorius, was the current champion for this issue; he was denied the right to compete in the Olympics by the International Association of Athletics Federations due to his carbon fiber prosthetics.
That decision was overturned today by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (who knew it exsisted?) and Pistorius will be able to compete in the Beijing Olympics, that is if he makes the qualifying time. This victory is a huge step forward for amputees, and will open a lot of doors. At the same time this will create more issues, what if they make a prosthetic that is better than the human leg? But that is an issue for another day, let us just rejoice in this victory today.
The Sad: In yet another case of neighborhood unfriendliness, a woman in Croatia was discovered mummified in her apartment after 35 years of isolation. Police in Croatia found the woman’s body when neighbors broke in to her apartment believing it should be theirs. They found the woman’s body naturally mummified by the conditions in her apartment. Her estimated cause of death is from natural causes and she is believed to have died in 1973. How crazy is it that she would go unmissed all these years? This just goes to show that you should always have someone you keep in regular contact with, just in case.

I do wonder if the prosthetics give any sort of advantage to the athlete. They sort of must, in a way, since they have no muscles within them to get tired or injured. I’m sure they have their drawbacks as well, but I can understand the side of the argument that says their use is “unfair”.
The sad is really sad. And scary! Did the neighbors who broke in to her apt. get any charges? So weird…

I don’t know if they were charged with anything. The neighbors were thinking of a law suit actually, they all want that apartment in addition to their own.
